Cardinal Pays Tribute To Prince

Vatican official quotes song of mourning from Prince’s film Under the Cherry Moon

Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi has paid tribute to pop legend Prince, who died yesterday at his home outside Minneapolis aged 57.

The cardinal, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, tweeted lyrics to the Prince song “Sometimes It Snows In April”.

He tweeted: “Sometimes, sometimes I wish that life was never ending, / All good things they say, never last.”

The song was first performed in the film Under the Cherry Moon, in which Prince played a gigolo, Christopher Tracy, who swindles wealthy French women.

It is a song of mourning performed after Tracy’s death.

Cardinal Ravasi paid the same tribute to David Bowie in January, quoting the lyrics to “Space Oddity”.
