3 Reasons Why Christianity Doesn’t Need To Be Cool

3 Reasons Why Christianity Doesn't Need To Be Cool

Christianity is not a religion, but a way of life for Christians (those who believe in Christ), Its not something we put on and put off. In worldly terms, it is considered a religion. The Christian life is based on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Fashion is not constant, it changes. It is often said, time is fickle

  1. Popularity Changes, The Gospel is Unchanging
3 Reasons Why Christianity Doesn't Need To Be Cool

It goes without saying that the music you listened to ten years ago probably isn’t the same music you listen to now. The same is true for the cloths you wear and the hobbies you enjoy. Culture changes, and people change with it. The gospel does not change. Throughout history, it has stood as a testimony to God’s enduring love. As it’s written in Matthew 24:35,

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

God’s Word is eternal

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8

“…having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever….” 1 Peter 1:23

“For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle [a tiny mark in the original spelling of a word] will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Matthew 5:18

“And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.” Luke 16:17

Do not alter (delete or add to) God’s Word

You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” Deuteronomy 4:2

“Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.” Deuteronomy 12:32

“…if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” Galatians 1:9-10

“For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you may well put up with it!” 2 Corinthians 11:4 [I.e. don’t tolerate heresy]

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” Proverbs 30:5-6

If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation  22:18-19

  1. The Gospel Will Never Be Cool
3 Reasons Why Christianity Doesn't Need To Be Cool

“At some point, we must face the sobering truth that the gospel will never be cool (1 Cor. 1:18). We can dress up the gospel in modern clothes and repackage it to an urbane culture, but at the end of the day – it’s still the gospel. It doesn’t matter if ministers grow long beards, dress in hipster attire, drink beer in study groups, and have a cigar lounge on their church campus – the gospel will never be cool and hip to a lost world.”

Changing your worship style, or holding Bible study at a coffee shop, won’t convince someone to put their faith in Christ. In the end, it all depends on the heart of the individual and their willingness to seek God.

The Word of God doesn’t apologize, God’s commands will not change with time or with seasons, therefore to the people in the World, it will never be cool.

Preach the whole truth – whether or not they listen

Acts 20:28

“He said to me: ‘Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. For they are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse—for they are a rebellious house—yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.” Ezekiel 2:3-5

“You shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse…” Ezekiel 2:7 “Then He said to me: ‘Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them. For you are not sent to a people of unfamiliar speech and of hard language, but to the house of Israel, not to many people of unfamiliar speech and of hard language….  But the house of Israel will not listen to you, because they will not listen to Me…. Moreover He said to me: ‘Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears. And go… and speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ whether they hear, or whether they refuse.” Ezekiel 3:7-11

“Therefore prepare yourself and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before their faces, lest I dismay you before them…. They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,’ says the Lord, ‘to deliver you.'” Jeremiah 1:17-19

“‘Hear this now, O foolish people, without understanding, who have eyes and see not, and who have ears and hear not: Do you not fear Me?’ says the Lord. ‘Will you not tremble at My presence?'” Jeremiah 5:21-22

“…in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:  Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive; for the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed….” Matthew 13:14-15

  1. Christians Should Always Be Faithful
3 Reasons Why Christianity Doesn't Need To Be Cool

“As we explore the early church in the book of Acts, we don’t see them majoring on set designs, hipster clothing, and church branding to get the gospel to the ends of the world. The early Christians were very much under submission to Christ’s rule and their lives exemplified holiness – not rebellion. We don’t see the need for the early church to use antinomianism to carry the torchlight of the gospel onward. Instead, we see people who were faithful to the gospel – even to the point of death – in order to get the gospel to the ends of the world.”

Believers shouldn’t care what the world thinks of them, what’s important is what God thinks. Christ has called us to be holy and devoted to Him. To live in such a way that His love is reflected onto everyone we meet. This is no easy task, society may call us strange, but the faithfulness of Christ will continue to speak long after modern trends have passed away.

Obey the whole truth

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:8-9

Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words….” John 14:23-24

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. “ James 1:21

“Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrew 4:11-12

Remember, the Gospel is constant but popularity is very fickle.
