Are you aware there’s a big difference between singing backup and lead singing? Most of the people that write/speak to me often express their eagerness to lead or go solo. They don’t see the need to submit to authority and learn the basics.
I used to be a backing vocalist (BV) before moving into lead singing. I enjoyed every bit of those moments because it afforded me the opportunity to learn as much as I could. Those periods were very crucial for me; they prepared me for today.
Unfortunately, people are not ready to humble themselves and learn from the best these days. The question is, can we trust you to lead a whole team when you have never been under submission? Like the Bible says, “One who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much…” (Luke 16:10a)
Tell you what? I still enjoy backing any lead singer when it is not yet my turn to lead.
Proverbs 11:2 states, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with HUMILITY comes WISDOM.”
I will be sharing with you subsequently on what it takes to be a good BV. Stay connected!
