Many get it wrong when it comes to the reason why God created man. Most people think God created man just to obey Him but that is not the main purpose.
I was just wondering into why God created man. The easiest place to go for answer is Genesis 1:26 where God said,
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)
But having dominion and controlling the earth can’t really be God’s purpose for creating man, else that will mean God created us only because He wanted somebody to take care of His earth. It will mean we are only needed because of the earth. It is the earth that was created for us; we were not created for the earth.
Many also think God’s whole purpose for creating man is that we obey his laws and do good. But if it’s all about we doing good then there was no need for God to create us. According to Acts 10:38 Jesus was anointed to go about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil. But that certainly was not His purpose on earth. His purpose was this:
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I AM COME THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE LIFE, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Jesus purpose was that we might have life – abundant life. So all His life and everything He did was driven towards that single purpose: That we might have life.
Man also has a purpose. That purpose goes beyond obeying God. Thus God did not create us because He wants to be obeyed. No.
If we get to know why God created us and be filled with that truth it will not be difficult to live right because you cannot live right until you know right.
This is the whole revelation of why God created man and achieving that purpose must be your ultimate goal in life. Don’t let religious demands and charismatic gimmicks push you away from that one thing which is needful, for which God created you. Don’t let your dream for success and prosperity steal you from that purpose.
Those who found and fulfilled that purpose are those who died honourable death, rejoicing that their life on earth was never wasted.
We read in Luke 10 the story of two sisters called Martha and Mary. Jesus went to their house to eat with them. Being obviously the oldest, Martha concerned herself with preparing the food and making sure everything was in order because Jesus was not a small guest at all. On the other hand her sister Mary sat with Jesus at the table. Instead of being with her sister and also busying herself with the chores she decided to be with Jesus.
Martha was very offended in Jesus and asked Him,
“But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. (Luke 10:40)
You see, Martha problem was that she thought Jesus went to her house so that she would serve Him. Many people think the same way. They think God’s purpose for creating man is that we serve Him so all they are interested in is serving God. And they think that by serving in the church, on missions, etc, it means they are doing God’s will. Yes, it’s amazing to serve the King. And we must all serve Him but that cannot take the place of God’s purpose for us. So Jesus told Martha,
“And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: BUT ONE THING IS NEEDFUL: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)
The problem with Christians today is that they have reduced Christianity to religion. And as a result they are careful and troubled about too many things. No wonder many cannot still find the satisfaction that is in Christ. They are in one of the finest religions of the world called “Christianity” but never in Christ. They work for a great organization called, “Church” but they are never part of “THE CHURCH”, for true Christianity and The Church of Jesus is concerned with that one thing Mary Chose, which is the whole purpose of man.
So what is that one thing that is needful, which Mary chose? It is this: BE WITH JESUS.
That’s simple but never simple because that’s the only thing Satan never wants us to have. Spiritual warfare is all about this one thing. And Bible says we have the victory already. How? Read Ephesians 2: 4-6:
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved). And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Do get it now? God’s purpose is that we be with Jesus. So even when we were dead in sin He woke us up through His Spirit, raised us up together with Christ and made us to SIT together with Christ. Wow! That’s that one thing Mary did: she sat together with Jesus.
It is time for us to come to that level in our walk with God. We need to be conscious of our being with God and concern ourselves not with the schedules and circumstances of this world. If we sit with Christ we rest also with Him from all things. He becomes our only focus, only attention, only message and only life. What does scripture says, “With God all things are possible”.
This should tell us why all things are not possible for too many Christians: they are serving God, going to church, obeying the commandments, preaching and doing all kinds of goodie stuffs but still they are dry and experiencing no impossibility turning into possibilities. They are with the people of the Lord always but not with the Lord of the people. They love the Work of the Lord but not the Lord of the work so they spend time on the work but not with the Lord. And they enjoy the gift of the Spirit but they don’t enjoy the presence of the Spirit who gave the gift.
The Holy Spirit yearns for our fellowship. As you read this message I pray your love for God grows and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you through the grace of our Lord Jesus. And may you always spend time with the Spirit.
