Groom Arrested At Wedding Over Robbery; Bride Collapses
A wedding is supposed to be a perfect day, but this couple’s celebration was ruined after the groom was arrested in the church.  The wedding ceremony was at Aldersgate Methodist Church in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis on Saturday, April 2, 2016. The groom, Augustine Antwi, was arrested by the Offinso police in the Ashanti region for defrauding people in the town and also for arm robbery.
This bizarre incident occurred at Dompoase Methodist Church in the Adansi North district. Pastor of the Church, Very Rev Ebenezer Eshun who officiated the wedding ceremony expressed shock at the incident. In an interview, the pastor said the couple had exchanged vows and were getting ready to sign their wedding certificate when the police stormed the church. “They came straight to the man, handcuffed him and sent him away after ignoring the intervention of church elders” he added. Very Rev Eshun said his interaction with the police revealed that, the groom who claims to be a teacher also poses as a visa contractor and has defrauded a number of people.
The arrest was in connection with a robbery case at Aniamote, a community in the Wassa Amenfi District in the Western region.
The suspect, Aaron Ackah, is also alleged to have robbed a Chinese Small Scale Miner of an amount of Gh¢18,000 after inflicting knife wounds on his left hand.

The pastor expressed worry at the state of mind of the bride who is a worker at the Dompoase Rural Bank. He disclosed that the bride cried uncontrollably after she was ditched at the altar by her imposter husband. Very Rev Eshun said he has since advised parents of the bride to offer her counselling to help her recover from the shock. Meanwhile, the groom is still in police custody pending investigations A civilian, who led the police to the wedding venue at West Anaji also said that the couple had just completed the exchange of vows and were about wearing their rings when two plain-clothed police officers from Bogoso stormed the place and whisked the bridegroom away after using one of the invitation cards to confirm his identity. The joy and excitement that had filled the venue of the ceremony was cut short as many of the awe-stricken guests started weeping and wailing. The bride, Rebecca Buah, was reported to have collapsed after the arrest. The suspect, Ackah, 30, has since been taken to Prestea for further investigation.
