Currently, 71 underaged beggars in the Greater Accra Region have been taken off the streets.
This was made possible through an initiative that commenced in May ”Operation get off the street for better life.” With the aim of supporting the government’s efforts to minimize streetism.
The initiative targets a group of street persons. From those with mental problems, to beggars, ones with disabilities, the destitute, head porters (kayayei), displaced persons, orphans and delinquents.
In order to provide a better solution to street life. As they reunite individuals back to their families and communities.
Fortunately, 17 underaged kids have been reunited with their families. With others been placed in various shelters in Accra.
