Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. – Psalm 37:7
Being still is hard for me. I am an active person who keeps a running to-do list with the personal goal to see each item scratched off daily. Keeping this in mind, I have learned that I need to be intentional about remaining still before God so that I may clearly hear from Him.
I have been guilty of rushing my quiet time with God far more than I’d like to admit. However, one day I imagined myself at a table with Jesus. I was praying and talking to Him, and then I abruptly got up and left Him there alone. This divine illustration helped me to realize I was never giving God a chance to speak to me. I was talking to Him, but I wasn’t being still long enough to allow Him to speak back to me.
If you find yourself like me, I want to encourage you to be intentionally still before the Lord. We never know what truth, word of encouragement, or direction from God we are missing when we don’t take time to be still before Him.
Heavenly Father, I am sorry for not intentionally being still long enough to hear from You. I ask that You help me never to get so focused on being busy that I forget the most important moment of my day; an opportunity to be with You. I never want to leave You waiting for me. Please help me to intentionally wait for You to speak. In Jesus Christ Name I pray. Amen.
