Nana Ameyaa II, the new Paramount Queenmother of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, has planned to tackle the incidence of high teenage pregnancy in the area.

Nana Ameyaa, known in private life as Efia Gyamfra, 58, therefore asked for the cooperation and support of her colleague queenmothers to make her vision a reality.

The Paramount Queenmother made this known at her coronation at Wassa Akropong in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.

She said girls have potentials like their male counterparts, to make meaningful impact in their communities and the country at large when given the needed support and guidance.

She also pledged to use her experience to settle all marriage disputes in the area.

She asked the youth to show respect to their elders.

“I shall work in humility and show respect to the paramount chief and my colleague queenmothers to promote the development of the area,” she said.

He lauded the vision set by the new queenmother to fight against the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and pledged to support her to achieve the objective.

The Omanhene reiterated his commitment to clamp down on illegal small-scale mining known as “galamsey” in the area and asked the security agencies and all stakeholders to support the cause.

He asked the political parties taking part in this year’s elections to conduct their campaigns devoid of insults and acrimony and rather sell their ideas, saying elections is a contest of ideas therefore the polls should not plunge the country into violence and unrest.

Some companies, financial institutions and individuals presented cash donations and gifts to the new paramount queenmother and pledged their support to move the development of the area forward.
