Three orphanages in the Sunyani Municipality; Compassion Is Love, Hanukah and Alafia Children’s Homes, received gift donations costing a total of about GHȼ15,000.00 to support the up-keeping of children in the orphanage.
These included bedsheets, curtains, bags of rice, gallons of edible oil, fruit drinks, recreational items and undisclosed cash.
They were donations from the former Ghanaian Ambassador to Libya and Nigeria, Mr. George Kumi, who is contesting the Sunyani East parliamentary seat as an Independent Candidate.
He said this was his contribution towards efforts at helping to take care of the children.
He urged everyone else to assist in making life much comfortable for the vulnerable, the poor and the destitute in the society.
Mr Kumi urged the management of the various homes to make sure the children had access to quality education and also offered to pay the tuition of the most brilliant children who makes it to Senior High School.
The orphanages appealed for clothing, food, footwear, wheel chairs and learning materials.
At Compassion Is Love, the Reverend Mrs. Shallot Osei Kwarteng, its founder, expressed concern about high electricity bills and said that was becoming a major discomfort to running of the orphanage.
On behalf of the other beneficiaries, she thanked Mr. Kumi for his philanthropic support.
