Rev. Yaw Nkansah, who is also the head of the Church in Virginia, speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday stated that, the conduct of Prof Martey is uncalled for.
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has branches in the US, but these branches are not affiliated to the Presbyterian Church of the United States.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) approved the ordination of gay pastors, elders and deacons in 2011, which led to many conservative congregations leaving the denomination.
Describing the decision as “demonic”, Prof Martey vowed that the Ghana branch will not accept the act because it is a total “deviation from Bible principles.”
“They are developing a strategy to sidetrack the church. We condemn what they have done. We have parted relationship with them,” Rev Prof Martey said.
The 1.75 million-member Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) updated its constitution to recognize same-sex marriage this week.
Rev Prof Martey said it is against the Bible principles to allow the practice in the church, describing the US Presbyterian Church as an institution that does not believe in the Bible.
“It is only the church… the true church that Satan is afraid of. Satan is not afraid of United States army or any other army. It is only the church…the church of Christ,” he added.
In this view, the Ghanaian Presby has distanced himself from all their allies based in America.
But the US Presby Moderator said “We are still Ghana Presby and not ready to follow what the Americans are doing and so we don’t understand Prof Martey’s conduct”.
He said even though they are based in America they have nothing to do with the American Presby.
According to him Prof. Martey has been creating confusions between the churches for a very long time.
“He has been doing that for a very long time like 15 years now and it hurt so much, it is not helping our church. If Prof Martey does not understand us then what does he want to happen to our church”? He quizzed.
Rev. Nkansah condemned American presby for their decision to recognize same sex marriage in their church stating that “there is no Africa church which will agree to homosexuality”.
He said “the Moderator of the Ghanaian Presby has recalled Rev. Yaw Frinpong Manso who was sent to Virginia on assignment but they will not allow him to go back to Ghana because he is working so hard”.
However the Virginia Presbyterian Moderator says his congregation will not relent on their decision to convince the American Presby to review their decision to accept same sex marriage.
“We in America are trying hard to convince them to rescind their decision” he concluded.
On his part, the Public Relations Officer for the Presbyterian church of Ghana, Rev. George Larbi on the same show said his outfit is trying hard to resolve the issue but refused to comment on the concerns raised against his moderator.
“We have taken into considerations the grievances and are trying hard to resolve the matter” he said.
He however admitted that the church in Ghana has recalled the moderator in the states, Rev. Yaw Frinpong Manso but refused to make their intentions known to the public.
