Monday, 18 September 2017 – Let your light so shine

_13 “You are the salt of the world. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty again? It’s good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled on by people. 14  “You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. 15  People don’t light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.16  In the same way, let your light shine before people in such a way that they will see your good actions and glorify your Father in heaven.” _ Matthew 5:13-16(ISV)

Our opening verse has been applied in so many ways by contemporary Christians but it’s unlikely application is the reduction of the scripture to a mere scripture for confession. This scripture is more than a confession. It is a clarion call by the Lord for his disciples to come into active service for impact as opposed to a hidden or passive Christianity.

It is a departure from a cool and quiet Christianity. A Christianity that is not visible to the unsaved world cannot be called the light of the world or the salt of the earth. You are a tasteless salt if your Christianity doesn’t affect the people around you. You are the lamp God has lighted for the world to be blessed and you are not meant to be hidden. If you are not being active with your Christianity it is time to take it seriously to affect your world.

John 1:4 (KJV) says:  ‘In him was life; and the life was the light of men’. In other words, the light you must shine for the world is the life you have received from the Lord Jesus. That life is what makes us children of God and distinguishes us from the people of the world. The Lord Jesus expects you to step out there and show to your world that God loves them through sharing the good news with everyone, healing the sick, casting out devils and binding the broken hearted whether you are a banker or a teacher.

Until you step out there affecting your world in this way, your are a tasteless salt or a light that is hidden under a basket. God’s command to you is let your light so shine. You’ve already been made the light, all you need to do is to make it shine. You are already the salt of the earth, don’t let men trod you under foot because your effect can’t be felt.  Don’t just confess you are the light of the world and salt of the earth determine to let your world experience it!

I am an active Christian whose light is shining brighter everywhere. I preach the gospel, heal the sick and raise the dead. I shine my light so bright daily to bring glory to my heavenly Father.
