Proverbs 4:20-22

My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

Menelik II (1844-1913), Emperor of Ethiopia, literally believed in the power of God’s word to heal. Whenever he felt ill he did not bother with conventional medications but turned instead to the Bible; not for religious or spiritual comfort, but for the supposed healing properties of the pages it was printed on.

Whether he suffered from an upset stomach or muscle strain, Menelik simply tore out a few pages of the Bible and ate them.

In December 1913, when battling to recover from a stroke, he decided that what he needed was a good dose of his healing medicine.

He had the entire Book of Kings ripped from the Old Testament and ate every page of it. Sadly, it proved to be an overdose, and he died shortly afterwards.

God’s word heals. Not the printed page but the inspired word from the spirit of God. The power of God is still alive to heal and restore us to health if we dare believe the promises of God. We do not have to literally eat the pages of the Bible.

God requires that we believe the words of the Bible with our hearts and act according to the demands of scripture. We need to recognize that:

• God wants you to live in divine health

• Jesus paid the price for your healing

• You need to know, believe, confess, and appropriate the Word on healing

Prayer: Lord, thank You for making provision for my healing in Your word.    Scriptural Reading: Proverbs 4:20-22
