War of Words!

A prophet was sent by God to deliver the word of the Lord to King Jeroboam. As part of his instructions he was not to eat or drink anything in the city. An older prophet in the city told him God had told him to eat and drink. Here is an excerpt of the dialogue between the two prophets.

1 Kings 13:17-18
“For it was said to me by the word of the Lord, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest. He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.”

The end result was that the young prophet was killed by a lion for disobeying God’s instructions. There was a war between the following: the word of the Lord, the word of an angel, the word of experience (the second prophet was an older prophet) and the word of the flesh (I believe the young prophet was hungry). I call this a war of words.

The written word of God is higher than any other form of revelation. Failure to place it in its proper category, in which it stands by itself, will lead to disaster. We must always allow the written word of God to win the war of words that rages in our minds lest we get slain by a lion.
