What is pure religion?
Hmm! I believe a lot of our churches across the globe, especially our so-called ‘great churches’ with over 3000 soul turn outs Sunday after Sunday have gotten this question out of place. Or in other words, does it ever cross their minds?
It will surprise you to find out most of these churches have great number of volunteers serving in the church faithfully with a devoted heart but yet going through a lot of hardships. Hardships leadership could easily attend to and solve. Yet they are so busy and caught up in their daily tasks. Wait! This is far from the truth. These leaders are aware of the hardships. They only chose to turn deaf ears to the cry of the poor.
On Sundays you hear them preach very powerful messages. But the effect is not really felt in the lives of those who serve diligently to make their ministry worth it. Is this what Christ preached about? Did Christ ever make them His representatives on earth giving them anointing, grace and power to enrich themselves, their families and the selective few who are regarded as the rich in the church.
1 Corinthians 4:6 says “What do you have that you did not receive; if you did received it why then do you boast as though you did not receive it.”
The shocking thing is that, those tagged as ‘low class’ in the church find it so difficult to get access to their spiritual leader in the church.
This leads to the flock fleeing to other churches to have their spiritual problems and to some extent their material needs soughted out for them.
Where is the church going? The earthly temple of our Lord.
Christ asked Peter three times whether he loved Him. Peter’s answer was yes.
This is the response of Christ to Peter- The rock of the church-
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. – John 21-17
I guess the leaders are surely not doing it the way Christ meant it to be. Sure! they will preach polished sermons that the feeding here is about spiritual edification. The question, however, ‘is the spirit the only part that needs feeding? Does not the body also require feeding? Did not Christ feed His disciples while on earth to fulfill His mandate?’
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
